WIC’s 50th anniversary celebration to be held at Audubon Zoo on September 14, 2024
NEW ORLEANS, LA - Join DePaul Community Health Centers' (DCHC), Tulane University and Louisiana’s Women, Infants and Children’s (WIC) Services on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Audubon Zoo (6500 Magazine Street) to celebrate 50 years of WIC.
The celebration includes activities for children, a DJ, line dancing, voting registration, multiple giveaways, and food resources for families. DCHC’s associates will provide guardians information about Louisiana SUN Bucks, which provides families with a one-time payment of $120 for eligible school-aged children to purchase groceries during the summer.
Guardians will also receive information about Louisiana’s WIC program, DePaul Community Health Centers, Louisiana Medicaid programs, and No Kid Hungry, a national nonprofit that works to feed children at school and home. There will also be information about studies conducted by the Tulane University School of Public Health and a NASA STEMS presentation for children of all ages.
Some of the other vendors participating in the WIC event include New Orleans Health Department, Training Grounds, LLC, and DePaul’s Infant Equity Education Program.
WIC was established as a permanent program in 1974 to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. WIC’s mission is carried out by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition education (including breastfeeding promotion and support), and referrals to health and other social services.
