Our Story
Ascension DePaul Services of New Orleans (ADSNO) mirrors the work of our founders, the Daughters of Charity, who began their health ministry in New Orleans in 1834 at Charity Hospital. They later founded Hotel Dieu Hospital in 1859. The sale of Hotel Dieu Hospital to the State of Louisiana in 1992 marked the beginning of a new approach to health services – a focus on primary care and prevention.The transition from a hospital to a community health ministry fostered development of Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans (DCSNO). Following destruction of the Carrollton health care center by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, DCSNO, which became ADSNO in 2019, has focused on expanding sites and services to provide much needed health care to greater New Orleans residents with continued focus on the poor and vulnerable. With 11 community health centers, operating as DePaul Community Health Centers, ADSNO has been able to provide health care and health education throughout the community.
